What is Pellet Bedding?
EquinePURE horse bedding pellets are a breakthrough in stable bedding. We have perfected a manufacturing process that creates a pellet that expands to hold more liquid, than any stable pellet product on the market today and we only use 100% pure new pine from environmentally sustainable pine plantations in Australia.
There is only one EquinePURE Pellets and it creates a fluffy, soft and dry bedding like nothing else on the market today.
We know how much you care about your horses. Because we are horse people and we love our horses too. Their health, comfort and well-being are so important to us, from their feed to their feet. We ask a lot from our horses and they deserve the best for what they give us. We are located up in the Snowy Mountains - the high country of NSW, at a high altitude that gets harsh. We need a bedding product that is warm and insulating, doesn't stay damp and freeze in winter or heat up and get sticky in summer.
Why is EquinePure better than sawdust?
Sawdust bedding has never been good enough. Even the name contains the word "dust" - because it is dusty! Sawdust stays damp, it's sticky and hard. It doesn't insulate and it stays cold and freezes in winter. It smells nice when fresh, but it's so hard to muck out because of the damp it holds; it's heavy and ammoniates quickly. Sawdust is awful stuff to dispose of because it kills everything it sits on and seems to never break down.
Useless to use in day yards because every time it rains it floats up and bogs down. So we bury it or pile it up on some faraway part of the farm where it still stinks and becomes home to nasty insects making nests inside it and bacteria all through it. It's flammable, dangerous and not environmentally friendly.
You can't use sawdust in your garden beds or compost either.
What about bagged shavings?
We did try bagged shavings for our horses but decided it is best used for pet rabbits. It doesn't last long and is weak and slippery underfoot for horses. Not very insulating either. We tried other bedding pellets but they were just pelleted raw sawdust or repackaged heating pellets so they had the same issues as sawdust.
So we developed something better, specifically for horses. It became EquinePure Pellets. We have tested it on foals, weanlings, yearlings, mature and aged horses. Injured horses, too. And it performs superbly in all situations. Now we are proud to offer our 100% Australian made, environmentally responsible bedding to you.
What are Pine Horse Bedding Pellets?
Put simply, pine pellets are compressed pine wood from pine plantations and timber mills. But which parts of the tree make up the sawdust?
The sawdust you buy for your stables contain all parts of the tree - the trunk and branches including the resin-rich outermost bark and dust, all mixed together. If you get the bottom of the pile it may also include dirt clods and damp. This is the same raw material used to make pellets for heater pellets.
Horse bedding pellets and pellet heater pellets are often the very same pellet, re-badged (and re-priced) for multiple markets, even though the end use for each is very different and therefore demands a different manufacturing process.
EquinePure Pellets are made only from the dust-free, bark-free, heart of pine, not from any other parts of the tree.
Here is a comparison of our pellet on the right and another brand, after being left to expand for 15 minutes and shaken. The bowl on the left shows more and larger particles sticking to it. The darker colour is due to a higher sticky resin content. EquinePure looks denser, softer and drier because it is. If you throw our bedding up in the air, it falls right back down and does not hang. That is because of the higher density of our expanded/hydrated bedding.

How are EquinePure Pellets made?
All wood pellets are made using basically the same method. Raw material is placed into one end of a big machine and after a series of processes, compressed pellets come out the other end. These pellets expand when water is added. The quality of the pellets depends very much on the quality of the raw material used.
Our custom-built, unique pellet-making system uses a specifically tailored method to process the raw heart of pine we use for our horse bedding pellets. This process ensure the raw pine retains much of its integrity right through to the end and dust is filtered out twice. When the pellets rehydrate and expand into horse bedding, it performs flawlessly.
Because there is no bark or other parts of the pine tree in the raw material, the end result is a softer, brighter, cleaner and more absorbent bedding for your horse that dries thoroughly and lasts longer.

Get Started Using Bedding Pellets
Bedding pellet box setup! Lets go!
Let's get started using bedding pellets in your new box and learn how it works

- Slice open the bags in the form of an X, from corner to corner.
- Pour about 9 liters of water (one bucket) into each bag.
- Wait for the magic to start! The pellets will expand in the bag, with the pressure increasing, forcing the water deeper into the pellets. Once the EquinePure has stopped visibly rehydrating and expanding in the bag, tip the bag over and empty onto the floor.
- Rake and shake the bedding, turning it over several times, then leave it to continue hydrating.
- Rake periodically over the next 15 - 30 minutes.
- If after 30 minutes there are pellets which have not expanded, use a watering can with a sprinkler nozzle or a hose set to fine mist to lightly sprinkle the areas which have not expanded. It is important to rake deeply to the bottom to break up any clumps and even up the bedding.
- DO NOT OVERWATER!! Less is more, you can always add more water if you need to.
- Depending on your climate, the rehydrating EquinePure bedding may continue to expand for over 24hrs as it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. You will come back in the morning and find that the bedding has gotten so much deeper!
Bedding Maintenance.
Liquid will be completely absorbed below the surface - keeping it dry on top. Locate wet spots and gently remove as completely as possible. EquinePure bedding will adhere to and coat manure, making it easy to muck out.
In areas with low humidity, a weekly light sprinkle with a watering can reactivates and fluffs bedding that has dried out too much.

Use one bag per week to replace the mucked out bedding.
You will know the bedding has reached the end of its life when it won't fluff up anymore. If bedding ever becomes completely pulverized, water the bedding well first, then clean out the box and start fresh, just like you would do with any bedding.
Notes.
• Do not overwater the pellets in the bag. The bedding should be slightly damp on rehydration but never wet.
• Overwatering will interfere with the rehydration process.
• Do not toss rehydrated bedding into the air to fluff. A deep rake is all you need to do.
• EquinePure bedding is 100% biodegradeable.
A Tip for "wet" Horses.
Wet horses can be difficult to manage. If you are stabling them on concrete or rubber flooring, it's even more difficult than being on a dirt floor because the wee isn't absorbed and just sits there saturating the bedding. If your horse wets and walks, he will spread the wee all through the bedding, making it challenging to muck out completely.
With EquinePure bedding, wet horses still need to be managed. But try this training trick. Only put a little bit of bedding into their box and put most of it into a corner until they learn that is where they have to wee. Most horses get it pretty quickly that there is a place for them to go. Once they start weeing only in the corner where the bedding is, introduce more bedding. If they wee everywhere again, reduce the bedding again. Eventually most horses get the lesson and begin to make less mess in their box. Give it a try!

EquinePure Pellets FAQ
FAQ about EquinePure Pine Bedding Pellets.
Do you use recycled wood?
Our pellets are made from fresh cut pine. As soon as you open the bag you will smell the fresh scent of new pine. We do not use recycled anything.
Does it stain white markings?
Absolutely not. The reason other pellets stain is because they contain tar and other impurities. You will find that some horse bedding pellets are just heating pellets. which contain things that make them burn hotter, and those same things make the pellet darker and sticky. This type of pellets will pack down and go hard. EquinePure Pellets are not heting pelets so do not need to conain those things. There is no tar that can stain white fur/tails and our manufacturing process ensures our pellets are perfectly suited to horses. Your white or chromed horse will remain completely white on our bedding so let them roll to their hearts' content.
Can I use EquinePure for foals and weanlings?
Of course. Horses of all ages and breeds can be stabled on EquinePure.
How often do I need to replace the bedding?
This depends on your horse. Box walkers, weavers and horses that walk around pooing everywhere tend to wear out the bedding faster than a horse who is content in the stable. Same as with any bedding, nervous/active horses always require more box changes than less-active ones. Under similar circumstances, EquinePure will always last longer than sawdust.
Do I have to water the pellets?
You will need to water it in the bag when you first use the pellets. EquinePure is incredibly absorbent. It absorbs moisture at a very fast rate so you will need to sprinkle it with water occasionally to reactivate/reset it. If you live in a dry environment you will need to lightly water the bedding with a watering can weekly to reactivate it. It all depends on your individual situation as all horses and environments are different. Usually no more than a litre of water is all you need to use to reset the bedding.
How long do the pellets last in the bag?
Indefinitely if kept dry.
How much does each bag weigh?
15kg. There is one tonne per pallet (66 bags).
Is EquinePure cheaper than sawdust?
We don't know what you pay for your sawdust but factor in the time to fill and muck a box, the reduction in time alone creates a big improvement over sawdust. You do not have the problem of mould, insects, bacteria and wood shards that you have to sift through when you get a new truckload of sawdust. EquinePure is in sealed bags and does not get wet, so there's zero waste. Our bags don't blow away in the wind either. After it's finished you can put it in your flower garden.
I use bagged shavings. Why should I switch to EquinePure Pellets?
EquinePure Pellets contain more bedding per bag than shavings by weight - they quadruple their size when activated with water. Plus, they take up half the space in storage that shavings do. One bag of EquinePure bedding will last longer than one bag of shavings, so there's that as well. Another important thing to know is that EquinePure bedding is far more absorbent and dense than bagged shavings, meaning more economical for you.
Will horses try to eat the bedding?
If they won't eat sawdust, they won't eat EquinePure. Some horses may try but they will find it not at all palatable. There are no pellets present in activated EquinePure bedding, just a nice, dry bed of soft pine. If there are any pellets left in the bedding after watering you have not left it to expand long enough, have not use adequate water, or maybe the water was too cold, too - which means the pellets will take longer to expand.
How are EquinePure Pellets better for my horse?
EquinePure Pellets contain no sticky dust, which is what inflames and causes problems for the airways of stabled horses. Also, since it absorbs and locks away urine, it does not ammoniate as fast. The surface stays dry, while the urine is pulled into the bottom of the bedding. Manure becomes completely coated with EquinePure and is easy to remove from the bedding. This is important for horses with loose manure or horses that walk the box.
It does not compact into hooves and under shoes because it does not contain tar.
Can I use EquinePure Pellets in my float/truck?
Yes! One bag of EquinePure Pellets in your float or truck will ensure your horses have a smooth journey, insulated from virbration, with no leg spashback from urine. It's easy to store, use and sweep out.
Can I use EquinePure Pellets with sawdust?
We don't recommend it as the sawdust will interfere with the dust-free and absorbent properties of the EquinePure Pellets.
What can I do with the used EquinePure Bedding?
You can spread it around in your day yards to create a soft, bright and absorbent surface and in outdoor areas to improve trampled areas or as wood mulch. The rain will wash it and help it to incorporate back into the earth. It will not float around in the rain and cause the sticky and poisonous problems sawdust waste does. You can also use it as a soil improver. It will raise the acidity of soil as well as help to retain moisture in poor soils. Spread it around your flowering plants or use it as a mulch for trees. But don't use it in your veggie garden because although the pellets are non-toxic out of the bag, your horse's waste may not be and your veggies may absorb unsafe chemicals from the manure.
Is EquinePure Australian?
Yes. We are a 100% Australian owned and operated company with all our operations in Australia. Our raw product is from Australian sustainable pine plantations.
